A lot of trends come by every fashion season, new and old. What also made a comeback on the runways for fall 2025 were a lot of (accidental) nip slips. With a load of see-through and sheer clothing, the nipples were on full display at brands like Alaïa, Gucci and Victoria Beckham. Brands that have been a part of the Free the Nipple trend for years, like Chloe and Alexander McQueen also keep hanging on. But it’s not just a trend; it’s a movement. One that seems to not have lost its importance in the year 2025.
The Free the Nipple trend started getting traction in 2012 while the campaign was created together with the comedy-drama movie Free the Nipple. A much needed campaign considering the strange judgements that get passed for the female gender showing their nipples versus the male. Now more than 10 years later, you still can’t own your body the way you want. Even on Instagram you get flagged at the first sign of nipples in your post, even if you decide to post it. But the male gender can happily run around the park on full display without anyone caring. This sexualisation of the female body is being owned by the women themselves now; we are taking our bodies back and fashion moves along with us.
So whether you want to wear it because you like it, because you hate wearing bras or because you just don’t care. Go for the Skims nipple bra, Ashish’s knitted nipple sweater or just go full out a la Nina Ricci, free the nipple.
