Alexander McQueen - Plato's Atlantis

As I was keeping myself occupied with one of my favorite pastimes, scrolling through many a fashion shows on youtube. I can never seem to avoid the Alexander McQueen S/S 2010 show once it pops up. A show that was so ahead of its times, as was the designer and a show well known by most in the fashion world. But, besides it’s amazing out of this world looks and it being the first show open to the public through a livestream. It also managed to still be relevant many years later.

The significance of Alexander McQueens S/S 2010 Plato’s Atlantis show now 16 years later seems almost inevitable. Imagine the mythical island of Atlantis, an empire that sank into the sea. Now, imagine our world being taken over by the climate crisis. Our world turning into an underwater world. That was exactly what McQueen got to thinking about all those years ago. People evolving into sea creatures, growing scales and fins. Body and skeleton shapes changing. Now all these years later the climate change is something that’s more on the top of people’s minds than ever.

This is one of those shows that can show you that fashion can go further than clothes. That concepts and shows can have deeper meanings (as they usually did at McQueen). Concepts that are still relevant many years later and might stay relevant forever.
